Since 1978, MAP has subsidized overseas advertising campaigns, product demonstrations, promotions, and exhibitions for U.S. agribusinesses and trade associations. The market promotion program is administered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS). While MAP no longer directly benefits individual companies such as McDonalds and Nabisco, it indirectly subsidizes many of these same companies through associated trade associations and cooperatives. The top two beneficiaries of MAP funding from Fiscal Years 2006-12 include Cotton Council International and the U.S. Meat Export Federation.
